Wenatchee Public Art Call for Artists

The City of Wenatchee is seeking an artist or team of artists to create a permanent art installation at the Wenatchee Convention Center as part of the Wenatchee Convention Center Expansion Project.

The Convention Center is located at 121 North Wenatchee Avenue, Wenatchee Washington.  The Convention Center is currently undergoing a $17 million dollar expansion project with its completion anticipated for August 2025.

GENERAL INFORMATION/PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The location for this art installation will be in an exterior space between the Wenatchee Convention Center and the Numerica Performing Arts Center (PAC) in the area depicted in the artist rendering below, approximately 10-feet below street level, at the bottom of a terraced landscaping feature.  The art installation shall be a minimum of 10-feet in height above grade and no more than 24-feet tall.

The design should take into consideration ease of maintenance and resistance to vandalism.  Water features are not allowed.  Landscape lighting is planned for this area.

ARTIST REQUIREMENTS

  • The artist may be an individual or a team.
  • The artist is asked to submit evidence of work experience and past projects as they relate to this Call for Artists, specifically addressing evidence of:
    • Experience relevant to this type of project
    • Evidence of communication skills: verbal, written, and visual
    • Experience working with other communities and design professionals
    • Availability/ability to begin work in a timely manner and meet project schedules
    • Teams must demonstrate prior collaborative experience

BUDGET

The total estimated budget for the project is $75,000.  The final budget must be all-inclusive; covering all costs associated with the project including design, fabrication and installation.  This amount must also include the artist’s design fee, the implementation budget, fabrication costs, fees, permits, and applicable taxes.  Taxes, insurance, and necessary licenses are the responsibility of the artist(s).

SUBMITTAL GUIDELINES

Please include the following with your submittal:

  • A one-page cover letter that includes a brief statement of interest in the project, collaborative skills, relevant experience, and technical ability.
  • Current resume(s) of the artist/contractor(s) and any other team member.
  • Reference list that includes the names, addresses, and phone numbers of three professional references who can speak to the quality of your artwork, collaborative ability, and ability to meet schedule and budget requirements.
  • A summary of previous, related projects containing up to a total of 12 images. The summary may be up to four pages in length.  The identification for images must include the artist/contractor’s name, title of work, brief description, medium, dimensions, date of completion, location of artwork, commissioning agency, budget, and collaborators/fabricators (if appropriate).
  • Artist/contractor or teams should submit all materials listed above for each team member as one package.

Incomplete or late submissions will not be considered.
