Susan Blair is the Editor-in-Chief of The Shrub-Steppe Poetry Journal, the annual poetry anthology which showcases the work of our North Central Washington poets. Founded by Susan in 2019, The Journal has been published consistently since 2020. We also published a "special pandemic edition" called Cats and Dogs Reigning in 2020.
Susan writes a monthly column for The Good Life magazine, "Poetry Matters," and she hosts a monthly poetry-only open mic which is free and open to the public.
A poet herself, Susan's full-length collection, A Howling, was published in September 2023 by Press 53 in Winston-Salem, N.C. (press53.com). Her chapbook, What Remains of a Life, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2018, and her poems have also appeared in Kakalak, The San Pedro River Review, Tebot Bach's Spillway 29, Spank the Carp and others.
As "Perri the Poetry Fairy," Susan has written 5 poetry activity books for kids, which she presents in costume to elementary school-aged children. She donates all proceeds from sales of these books to pancreatic cancer research in honor of her sister who illustrated them, and who died of that disease in 2019.
Susan earned a B.A. in German & Russian from Middlebury College in Vermont.
