From INSPIRE WASHINGTON:
This week has become an important one for Congressional funding of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
On the House side, the FY’25 Interior Appropriations bill will be considered on the House floor during the week of July 22. This bill currently appropriates $203.895 million each to NEA and the NEH. This represents a 1.5 percent cut below current funding levels. And, we’ve just learned that on the Senate side, the Senate Full Appropriations Committee will mark up its version of the FY’25 Interior Appropriations bill on Thursday, July 25th. There is a better chance of securing higher funding levels in the Senate bill, perhaps as much as $211 million each for the NEA and NEH.
We already know that two weakening amendments will be offered on the House floor by freshman Freedom Caucus member Rep. Josh Brecheen (R-OK) to further cut NEA and NEH by an additional $48 million each, that’s over a 23% cut that we cannot let happen!
Here’s how you can quickly help. Using the templates below, please:
1. Please send a message now to your House Member to VOTE NO on the Rep. Brecheen floor amendments to prevent further cuts to the NEA and NEH in the House version of the FY’25 Interior Appropriations bill.
2. Please also send a message now to both your Senators to urge the Senate Appropriations Committee to fund the NEA and NEH at $211 million each in the Senate version of the FY’25 Interior Appropriations bill.
