Fraile Forms is a collection of recent fragments by June T Sanders – made from a monastery in rural Idaho, a farmhouse in North Carolina, and an abandoned showroom on the Palouse prairie.

Dear A, I’ve been asked to show my work again, and again I struggle with what to say. Again – what I have are fraile forms salvaged from the materials of fallen down homes & railroad tracks. You always know how to say it better. Will you speak to it? Remember when M and J called the work libidinal? That felt right. Or when we drove 12 hours so you could show me pieces of glass embedded in concrete in some religious fervor? Forms came to life on those rural routes – and scrounging for wood in these fields, or in those city dumpsters doesn’t feel the same without you. I just want to make portals. I want to be a node in the narrative of a place. One where the hills sing and everyone you love is just a walk away. I want to know what prayer means. I want my body remade. And to be moved by a greater force. When will we stop with the artist statements, wrapped in pretense, with no meaning? – June

For J, “The light of others’ hearts guide our hands in bringing matter to form. Each gesture a map of love like the transient constellation of synchronized fireflies. And so, each collection a choir of consonant bodies; a beat-up atlas markered over with the route of a life on the road, each encounter recorded by the movement of hands pulling together disparate pieces like so many friends and lovers. And the hearts most present, in the towns so crossed over to be erased from the map, or drawn along a Nebraska dirt road in parallel line, enshrined in each object by loving hands.” – Adrienne Economos-Miller
