Diann Kincaid Fine Art

Abstract Impressionism describes my painting style, yet at times I find myself distorting realism on a whim.

My goal is to capture the beautiful glow of light and colorful shadows in the landscape, letting the paths in my paintings tell their own stories.

I have a special love for horses, which has inspired many of my equine paintings. I’m always in awe of their stunning forms, especially when they’re accompanied by the amazing cowgirls and cowboys who adore and work with them.

When I paint, I am focused on the significance of the first mark on the canvas. From there, I let colors play together to evoke an emotion. I often swipe, smear, smudge, and daub the paint, hoping that those who look at my work will take a moment to linger and uncover the treasures within.

Biography:
Diann Kincaid began her painting career as a young girl in the 1960s. Her early artistic expressions included large paintings of birds and vibrant landscapes inspired by various record album covers. Although she is primarily self-taught, she has been influenced by many talented artists, whose work has shaped her techniques and enabled her to create captivating compositions.

Her painting style is fluid and directional, effectively portraying still life, expansive landscapes, and emerging light sources. Diann is passionate about painting in the Alla Prima style, producing artworks that are not only visually stunning but also deeply emotional, fostering a strong connection with viewers.

Alongside painting, Diann has recently taken up sculpting, which is now just as important in her art. She shapes clay or wax with smooth, flowing lines and rhythmic details, turning her observations into three-dimensional pieces. Her book, “Shadow Chasing in Sedona,” features “Sedona Shadows,” her most notable bronze sculpture. Each piece has a sense of mystery and stands strong, reflecting the pioneering spirit of the land it represents.

Diann Kincaid draws inspiration from Henry David Thoreau’s proverb: “It’s not what you look at that matters; it’s what you see.”

Diann aims to do more than paint nature, people, and landscapes. She hopes to inspire others to see the world differently. She offers private painting classes for beginners and intermediate painters at her studio in Cashmere.  Diann also volunteers at the Alatheia Riding Center and curates the Courageously Created Fine Art Show.
