WVC MAC Gallery
November 6—December 18
First Friday Opening Reception: November 6, 5:00—7:00 pm
Artist’s Gallery Talk: Friday, November 6, 6:00 pm

WVC Ceramics Instructor Sarah Sprouse transforms the MAC Gallery into a sacred space with her immersive installation, Soft Altars. Rooted in the material language of clay, her ceramic vessels in an altered environment serve as intimate altars for celebration, ritual, adoration, and return.

Exhibition Statement:
Soft Altars explores the quiet alchemy of the everyday, where ordinary objects become sites of celebration, ritual, and return. Ceramic vessels serve as intimate altars to love, family, stewardship, the natural world, artistic ancestry, and community. Rooted in the material language of clay, the exhibition considers the sacred possibilities of everyday life and the quiet forms of adoration found in tending to one another.

BIO:
Sarah Sprouse is a visual artist, educator, and art historian. She holds a PhD in the History of Art from the University of Edinburgh, with research focusing on women ceramic artists, collaborative studio practices, and histories of craft. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in several permanent collections. Across her work, Sprouse is committed to supporting artists and building meaningful, inclusive communities through the arts. In addition to teaching ceramics at Wenatchee Valley College, she also serves as Executive Director of the Grünewald Guild.

Urinetown: The Musical is a hilarious, high-energy satire where even a trip to the bathroom comes with a price.

In a drought-stricken city, private toilets are banned and citizens must pay to use public amenities run by the powerful Urine Good Company. When a brave young hero dares to challenge the system, a rebellion bubbles up that could change everything. Packed with catchy songs, sharp humor, and plenty of unexpected twists, Urinetown proves that even the silliest premise can deliver big laughs—and a surprisingly smart message.

The goal of the project is to create an artistic gateway panel to help make the Bridge Street corridor more interesting and vibrant, improve the area as a desirable walking/biking route, and also create a feature to help guide pedestrians from Wenatchee Avenue to the Apple Capital Recreation Loop Trail and the Clark Bridge. The Clark Bridge was the first bridge that spanned the Columbia River and is part of the ten-mile Apple Capital Recreation Loop Trail. The bridge also provides access to Hale Park.

The park features a dog off-leash area, skate park, picnic shelter, and children’s play equipment. The design should take into consideration ease of maintenance and resistance to vandalism. A laser-cut, powder-coated steel image is desirable to reduce the amount of surface area available for tagging and areas where a person may be concealed. The art panel is planned to measure sixteen feet wide and four feet high and would be anchored onto a concrete curb. Full details are available on the City of Wenatchee website: https://www.wenatcheewa.gov/services/bid-opportunities.

PRELIMINARY SCHEDULE:
The following is the preliminary schedule for the project and is subject to change. Changes to the final installation deadline will be at the mutual agreement of the artist and the City of Wenatchee and may be subject to change. The ideal completion would be prior to March 30, 2027.

Call to Artists: August 20, 2026
Submittal Deadline: October 1, 2026 2:00pm
City Selects Finalists: October 20, 2026
Finalist Interviews: November 17, 2026
Artist Selection: December 10, 2026
Estimated Project Start: January 10, 2027
Estimated Project Completion: March 30, 2027
