As an artist based in Wenatchee Washington, my creative path has been a dynamic exploration of mediums from oils and encaustic painting to mixed media and spray paint.
My work delves into abstract landscapes born from travels in the PNW and memories of seascapes on the East Coast as a child. Although the paintings live in the abstract, they are based upon real places illustrating real memories. I translate that personal dialogue into patterned fields of color as a means of reflecting my emotions.
At present I'm experimenting with ink washes and spray paint which gives a distinctive blend of spontaneity and precision with masking techniques. I begin with ink and acrylic washes and finish with spray paint for its unpredictable nature. I work in series, several paintings at once. This practice keeps my mind loose and encourages me not to overthink each mark. It helps to make the process less precious and lends itself to opportunities to take greater risks without fear.
