Collaborative Effect: Prints by Natalie Dotzauer and Her Printmaking Students

The WVC Art Department is very proud of our commitment to our printmaking classes, even as colleges elsewhere make the determination that their programs are too expensive or niche.  Our students are fortunate to have the rare opportunity to study a variety of printmaking processes in the MAC, including relief, intaglio, and serigraphy.  These media are fun and historically significant, and they expand students’ ideas about what is possible with their art.

WVC’s printmaking studio helps students develop skills for producing multiples of the same image through a variety of techniques. This practice of repetition requires an understanding of sometimes complex processes of transferring ink to paper in a consistent way, using specialized tools, and taking into consideration differences in colors, textures, and backgrounds when creating the art. Constant repetition allows them to learn and develop as artists in a transformative way.

On display in the gallery are works from a range of processes, done by practicing artists from a variety of backgrounds, from novices to advanced printmakers. Working together collaboratively in the studio, this shared studio experience and support infuses their work with a new level of creativity and energy.

The MAC Gallery is open 8am-5pm, Monday – Friday. Exception: First Friday of each month hours are extended to 7pm.
