SUMMARY:Leavenworth Village Voices "Christmas in the Mountains & Around the World" Benefit Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of beautiful holiday music performed by Leavenworth Village Voices to benefit the Cascade Choir Crescendo Campaign. \nIt will be an unforgettable night with guest performances by the Cascade High School Choir. Before the show and during intermission you can peruse the silent auction and raffle items that will support the Icicle River Middle School Arts program and enjoy baked goods at our bake sale. The event will be held at Cascade High School. Bring the whole family to this wonderful evening. \nIf you are unfamiliar with the Cascade Choir Crescendo Campaign\, in Spring 2024 school districts throughout the nation struggled with their budgets. In the Cascade School District\, our Choir program was one of the cuts that needed to be made. The Cascade PTSA\, the Performing Arts Boosters\, the Superintendent\, School board and the choir students didn’t want to see the program cut. We worked with together to determine the amount of funds needed to retain the program until the school Levy can pass. The Cascade Choir Crescendo Campaign was born out of this collaboration. We have $15\,000 left to raise out of the $65\,000 needed to fully fund the choir program for the 2024-25 school year and $65\,000 to raise to fund the 2025-26 school year. Your support is deeply appreciated! We are grateful to Leavenworth Village Voices and to you for supporting the Cascade students and helping to retain our choir program. DESCRIPTION:See it LIVE or listen to it on KPQ on December 17 & rebroadcast on December 24\nDirected by Dani Schafer-Cloke and Foley Director James Wallace\nIn this ingenious meeting of two Victorian classics\, Dr. Watson visits his old friend Sherlock Holmes on Christmas Eve\, finding him in a dark and misanthropic mood\, planning to retire from the dull work of solving crimes. But soon\, Holmes is visited by the ghost of his great enemy Professor Moriarity\, who warns Holmes that he is heading towards his own damnation and tells him of an upcoming visit by three spirits. During the visits that follow\, we learn about Holmes’ childhood and his lost love\, the chaos that his early retirement has caused his friends and associates throughout London\, and finally a terrifying future: Holmes sees himself\, a cold creature of pure intellect\, supplying weapons to the battlefields of the First World War. Waking on Christmas morning\, the repentant Holmes makes amends with his friends and rededicates himself to his higher purpose. \nWhat is an Old Time Radio Show?\nBefore TV took over\, radio was one of the world’s main sources of entertainment. Apart from news\, commercials\, and music\, it also broadcasts shows: dramas\, mysteries\, comedies\, and more. Families in the 1920s through to the 1960s gathered around to listen to what we now call old-time radio shows. Now Helen\, Sally\, and the rest of the nurses must do everything they can to keep themselves and their charges alive as they navigate nursing through a war zone in Manilla\, a tropical jungle in Bataan\, and eventually as prisoners of war in the Santo Tomas Internment Camp. DESCRIPTION:Stories come in all forms. We tell stories to entertain\, to communicate\, to educate\, to rupture boundaries\, and so much more. Through stories\, we may define ourselves\, weaving hero’s journeys out of lives once lived or lives we dream to lead. Our stories can be rooted in childhood\, shaped by archetypes\, and steeped in societal expectations. Perhaps they are a reflection of the generations that came before us\, a continuation of the narrative that shapes who we are—if we choose to embrace it.
