SUMMARY:Waymaking: Juried Exhibition from Grunewald Guild @ Mela
DESCRIPTION:Featured Artists: Grunewald Guild’s group exhibition featuring 28 artists. \n\nThis juried exhibition is a collection from various artists relating to the theme of exploring a creative path in community.\n\nCurated by Shan Wang\, this will be Grunewald Guild’s second annual fall exhibition.\n\n\nAbout Waymaking:\nWaymaking is a juried exhibition of 35 pieces representing the work of 28 artists. The materials and media are diverse\, including sculptural ceramics\, furniture\, artist books\, collage\, glass mosaic\, mixed media sculpture\, hand-dyed and stitched textiles\, print-making\, and paintings in oils\, acrylic\, and watercolor. Each work was selected for its resonance with the unifying theme of Waymaking. Art has the power to inspire\, provoke thought\, and evoke emotion\, but also forges connections and creates pathways within communities. Artistic expression serves as a universal language that transcends boundaries\, bringing people together and fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose. In the embrace of community\, individuals find support and encouragement to explore new horizons\, learning about their expressive capacities together through the possibilities and constraints of craft. The body of work exhibited represents a community of artists\, and the work itself illustrates the process of finding or making one’s way\, both together and individually.\n\nThe Artists:\nLarkin Jean Van Horn\, Gloria Dovre\, Brian Strickland\, Erin Power\, Niki Stewart\, Pippin Christiansen\, Lindsey Merrell\, Vonda Drees\, Nicole Lang\, Lyn McCoy\, Rick Szeliski\, Becky Greear\, Claudia Elliott\, Dan McConnell\, Jami Campbell\, Amber Zimmerman\, Sheryl Smith\, Henry Stinson\, Sarah Laird\, Mary Rossing\, Cynthia Neely\, Jason Campbell\, Claire Seaman\, Claudia Mullek\, Emily Atkinson\, Alicia O’Dell\, Lila Steffan\, and Arden Wren Sawyer.

Painted on glass and panel or cast in clay and aluminum\, Kate’s fleshy and precise beings hearken old wisdom and dish silly jokes. In Cavity Creatures\, Kate presents a suite of figurative works from the past six years that have emerged alongside the development of larger-scale public art projects. Kate’s studio practice ruminates on the constant reinterpretation that old objects and entities undergo: Paleolithic fertility figures transform into everyday gals wearing boots and hats\, a she-wolf rejects her suckling burdens for a night out\, and aged women laugh themselves into the center of a folk painted flower.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMuch of the work on display explores Kate’s fascination with the sculptural morphing of the human female form. These explorations emerge from Kate’s personal ambivalence with her assigned gender and her deep admiration of women throughout time. Her works often resuscitate female figures found in classical art history\, whether it be figurative statuary fountains or the Venus of Willendorf. Some of her paintings adapt feminized craft forms\, such as the Nordic tradition of ”rose painting” or Rosemaling. Other paintings\, such as her Cavity Dwellers Suite\, painstakingly render in miniature the reproductive links between holes in trees and holes in bodies. Kate’s multidisciplinary works reveal moments with mythical entities who may be tucked into tree cavities or curio cabinets. \nIn addition to Kate’s work\, our retail space will showcase Karl Schwiesow’s ceramic work. Join us for the opening on Saturday\, October 5\, noon until 4 pm. SUMMARY:Community Film: False Promises: The Lost Land of the Wenatchi
DESCRIPTION:Icicle Creek Center for the Arts \nThe doors open at 6 pm. Please join us for finger foods and mingling before the film. The film will start at 7 pm and be followed by a panel discussion. \nThis film makes an impassioned plea for the return of the land that was taken from the Wenatchi Tribe of Washington State. For generations\, they lived and fished on their land. In 1855\, they were offered a reservation under the terms of the Yakama Treaty. The U.S. failed to honor that treaty as well as others that were made with the tribe. Historian E. Richard Hart has been working in Indian affairs for over thirty years. He knows of no other case where a tribe was promised fishing rights in a ratified treaty and again in a ratified agreement\, and still does not have those rights honored. \nAs a result of these injustices\, the Wenatchis had to leave their land. Most moved to the Colville Indian Reservation. In 1937\, Chief Harmelt died\, but today his granddaughter and her children have taken up the fight along with other tribal elders of the Wenatchi Advisory Board and many others. About 28% of the land in the area that should have been a Wenatchi Reservation is still a part of the public domain. When will the U.S. right this historical wrong? \nProduced by White Noise Productions\nDirected by Rustin Thompson \nWe are honored to be partnering with The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation\, Wenatchee River Institute and the Greater Leavenworth Museum to bring this film to the big screen in Snowy Owl Theater! \nTICKETS AND MORE INFORMATION \n\n

Come early to experience the Thorp Community Day which kicks off with a Grand Parade and scrumptious\, rib-sticking community breakfast hosted by our local fire fighters at the Thorp Fire Station. SUMMARY:OVOC Concert Season 2024-2025
DESCRIPTION:Stories come in all forms. We tell stories to entertain\, to communicate\, to educate\, to rupture boundaries\, and so much more. Through stories\, we may define ourselves\, weaving hero’s journeys out of lives once lived or lives we dream to lead. Our stories can be rooted in childhood\, shaped by archetypes\, and steeped in societal expectations. Perhaps they are a reflection of the generations that came before us\, a continuation of the narrative that shapes who we are—if we choose to embrace it. Or maybe\, your story has always been wild and free\, untamed by convention\, waiting for its moment to be told. \nAs we journey through life\, we are both the storytellers and the stars of our narratives. Each choice we make and each path we take adds a vibrant new thread to our existence. So\, where do we find ourselves in this beautiful web of tales? Are we the heroes\, the guides\, the adventurers\, or perhaps the dreamers? What story are we living\, and more importantly\, what story do we aspire to tell? \nIn this season of Stories\, we invite you to explore these questions with us. Let’s celebrate the narratives that have shaped us\, consider the stories we’ve been told\, and thoughtfully craft new tales that reflect the joy\, growth\, and potential within us all. Whether through music\, theater\, or the written word\, let’s share our stories\, embrace our roles with purpose\, and create a season that’s not just about telling these tales\, but about living them with creativity and intention. \nConductor’s Notes \n“It is with great anticipation that we look forward to the OVOC 2024-25 season: “Stories.” This season\, we will be exploring music that tells a story. Whether it is thematic storytelling\, operatic\, or a story actually being narrated\, this season is certain to delight! Throughout the year\, you can plan on hearing the Orchestra play such favorites as Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring\, ’Twas the Night Before Christmas\, and How to Train Your Dragon. The Chorus will be singing Shenandoah\, Hymn to Red October\, and music combining voices with brass instruments in Cantique de Jean Racine. For the season finale\, you can look forward to hearing music from Carl Orff’s musical setting to Medieval poems\, Carmina Burana\, which will combine the forces of the orchestra and chorus. We are looking forward to another exciting and inspiring year of music-making and hope you and your friends will join us. Thank you for supporting the magic of community music!”  Mathew Brown and Derek Pulsifer \nWelcome to OVOC’s 2024-2025 Concert Season: Stories \n\nFall Concert: October 19th\, 2024 (Saturday) at 3:00 PM (Omak PAC)\n\nLord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring\nHero’s Journey\nWinter Dreams by Pinkzebra\nCandlelight Carol by John Rutter\nMother Goose Suite\nRob Roy: The Scottish Robin Hood\nHunt for Red October\n\n\nWinter Concert: December 14th\, 2024 (Saturday) at 2:00 PM (Omak PAC)\n\nBeethoven’s Symphony No. 6\n’Twas the Night Before Christmas\nMusic from The Nutcracker Suite\nEight: The Story of Hanukkah by Bob Cohen\nDo You Hear What I Hear\n\n\nOVOC Variety Show: February 9th\, 2025 (Sunday) at 6:00 PM (Omak PAC)\n\nSubmit applications by Sunday\, January 5th\n\n\nSpring Musical: May 8th-11th\, 2025\n\nStay tuned for audition information\n\n\nSpring Concert: March 22nd\, 2025 (Saturday) at 5:00 PM\n\nCarmina Burana by Carl Orff (big feature with the orchestra)\nLava from the Disney short\nClouds by Zach Sobiech\nHow to Train Your Dragon\nAn Ode to Joy Festival\n\n\n\nLearn more at www.ovocmusic.org
