SUMMARY:Lit Mic: NCW's loudest open mic
DESCRIPTION:Join us for NCW’s loudest open mic: Lit Mic. \n\n\n\nJoin us every First Tuesday at Bushel & Bee Taproom in Leavenworth. 7pm to 9:30pm \n\n\n\nThis open mic is for writers of all types and stripes. Bring your poems\, essays\, excerpts\, short stories and more. Sign up on arrival to reserve your spot. Space is limited. \n\n\n\nThe key tenets of Lit Mic summarized: be kind and make some noise. \n\n\n\nThe slightly longer version: Art is personal and political. We are kind and respectful. Keep it real\, but keep it civil. We are here to celebrate art and artists. Check any pretentiousness and bad vibes at the door. We are NCW’s loudest open mic. Whistle\, clap\, cheer – show these writers some love. \n\n\n\nThis event is hosted by Holly Thorpe of Stark Consulting and Events. Questions? Contact Holly at starkncw@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Empty Bowls Soup Meal
DESCRIPTION:What is it? Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger growing across the nation and the world. The idea is that potters\, artists\, and community members’ work together to create custom hand crafted bowls. This event combines compassion with creativity while generating public awareness with the community members. Proceeds benefit food distribution centers and meal programs in Chelan and Douglas counties.\n\nHow does it work? There is a $15 donation and then community members will receive a bowl to decorate and paint. After the bowls are collected\, they are glazed then fired in a kiln. Once this is done following three paint days\, we host a celebration at Wenatchee High School.\n\nThe final celebration will be at Wenatchee High School on Saturday\, April 12\, 2025 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. We will enjoy soup together with the bowl you created. For those who did not paint a bowl but wish to attend the Soup Meal the fee is $5 for the donation. You will take home your bowl as a reminder of all the bowls in our community that too often go empty.\n\nFor more information or to register\, please contact:Karen Bruggman\, RSVP Program Coordinator\, karenb@cdcac.org\, 509-662-6156 ext 254Leslie Corcoran\, Community Engagement Specialist/AmeriCorps\, lesliec@cdcac.org\, 509-662-6156 ext 2231

SUMMARY:Film and Speaker Series presents: Homelessness and the Meaning of Home
DESCRIPTION:The Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center is honored to have University of Washington professor Josephine Ensign discuss the socio-economic complexities of homelessness on Thursday\, May 8\, 7-9 PM. \nLoss of a home due to financial difficulties\, divorce\, illness\, or natural disasters like wildfires is a growing problem. Often seen as an urban issue\, homelessness also affects suburban and rural areas in Washington State. What are the historical roots of homelessness\, and what lessons can we learn? What does home mean to us\, and how can we apply these meanings to address homelessness in our communities? Author and professor Josephine Ensign leads a values clarification exercise with individual writing time. She shares her research on the history of homelessness in Seattle and discusses what these stories teach us about the current crisis throughout our state and country. \nThis lecture is free to everyone. Pre-registration is recommended. \nThe 2024-25 Film and Speaker Series is sponsored by Gesa Credit Union. This speaker event is brought to you by Humanities Washington.
