SUMMARY:Fatal Abstraction: A Group Exhibition @ Punch
DESCRIPTION:Fatal Abstraction\nA Group Exhibition\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n12-4pm Saturdays\nOpen 12-8pm on Last Saturday!\nMay 4\, 11\, 18\, 25\n10630 N Thorp Hwy\, Thorp\, Washington\n––––\nBeer & Tasty Snacks\nAll Ages\, Free Admission\n10630 N Thorp Hwy\, Thorp\, Washington\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLive Music Every Saturday\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpening Reception Saturday\, May 4\nOpen 12-4pm\n––––\nLive Music 2-4pm\nMicah J\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis May\, PUNCH presents a survey of work by six (mostly) regional artists\, who individually approach the notion of abstraction in their own personal and inventive ways. And though our clever exhibition title might lead one to believe otherwise\, this show has absolutely nothing to do with a 1980’s psychological romantic thriller about a lawyer and his scorned mistress. But rather\, this exhibition has everything to do with the visual vocabulary of non-figurative representation\, made by six female-identifying artists who excel in their own territories of butt-kicking bad-assery. \nCatherine Cook approaches the canvas with no preconceived plan; for her\, the act of painting determines the final outcome. Her keen eye knows what to include and what to leave out. For Cook\, everything we see around us becomes part of us. \nMaria Cristalli lives is the woods and forges hot metal. Her sculptural work marries function and form. Aside from her custom ironwork\, she creates studio pieces as well as large-scale public art. \nJen Erickson uses watercolor and oil combined with graphite to create subtle paintings of nuanced\, atmospheric layers of information. For Erickson\, her infinitesimal pencil marks appear as flying and fleeting bug-like swarms and serve as stand-ins for her own feeble attempts to capture and hold onto it all. \nKathy Guss throws ceramic pieces informed by the slip-glazed terracotta pottery produced in Italy and southern Gaul during the Roman Empire. In most ordinary households\, these embellished vessels were used daily for food and drink. For Guss\, the textures of the stamped and raised surfaces are meant to contrast and complement the smooth finish of the colorful slip glazes. \nRobin Mayberry artistic practice revolves around exploration\, particularly through encaustic paintings. The combination of pigments and hot wax\, with its tactile and fluid nature\, invites viewers into a realm where the boundaries between the conscious and unconscious blur\, guiding us into our own wild hearts.\nChristina Miller chases that sweet spot where nature and architecture coalesce. By combining walnut ink\, paint on paper\, and plywood substrates\, Miller develops new relationships between the linear and the organic\, courting visual stories and the charged emotions behind them. \nPlease join us for the opening of Fatal Abstraction on Saturday\, May 4\, from noon until 4 pm with live music from Roslyn’s own Micah J from 2-4pm in the PUNCH bar.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExhibition Link

SUMMARY:Pop-Cyclicle by Ron Evans @ Punch
DESCRIPTION:Ron Evans\nPop-Cyclicle: Robots\, rayguns & remnants from a time or place that likely never existed.\n\nRon Evans\, a dynamic mixed-media artist rooted in East Wenatchee\, is driven by an unwavering and inexplicable passion for robots\, rayguns\, pinup\, mid-century design\, and pop culture. While his artistic journey began with acrylic paintings and pen & ink illustrations\, Evans has ventured into the realm of 3D artistry\, crafting intricate sculptures from paper\, wire and foamboard. \nWithin his creative philosophy\, 1960s kitsch\, nostalgic tacky motels\, Saturday morning cartoons\, and heavy metal album covers are elevated to the status of ‘fine art’. Evans strives to infuse his creations with both substance and a sense of approachability. \nIn 2015\, Evans opened a tiny art gallery in his home called RadarStation. The success of these shows – focusing mostly on lowbrow street art and pop-surrealism – led to a downtown gallery/bar/venue which operated from 2017-2019. In 2017\, Evans launched The Comet Magazine\, an alternative local-centric arts and entertainment monthly which continues to grow in readership and coverage. \nPop-cyclicle showcases some of the investigations\, interpretations and transgressions that occupy Evan’s creative mind. Please join us for the opening on Saturday\, June 1\, from noon until 4 pm with live music by the legendary Jumpin’ Johnny at 2-4pm in the PUNCH bar. \n\n\n\nUpcoming Events on the PUNCH Stage:\n\n\n\n6/01: Jumpin’ Johnny [acoustic jams from a legendary rocker]\, 2-4pm \n6/08: Anjuman [classical indian/ afro-cuban fusion]\, 2-4pm \n6/15: The Last of the Red Hot Mamas [jazz-inspired\, country-sauced blues]\, 2-4pm \n6/22: Randy Weeks and the Silent Treatment [soul/ americana/ roots rock]\, 2-4pm \n6/29: Last Saturday!: DJ Grand Marshal\, The Nightmares [punk /garage-rock]\, Datura [post punk/ goth rock ]\, 6-8pm
