Organization Profile: The Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra (WSVO) is celebrating its 78th season. The WVSO presents a variety of symphonic performances while maintaining a roster of local and regional musicians. WVSO is dedicated to the region through its collaboration with local arts organizations, community foundations, and education/outreach programs.

Position Summary: Serve as the Executive Officer of the Wenatchee Valley Symphony Association, reporting to the Board of Trustees. Manage the human and financial resources of WVSO to support and encourage fulfillment of the orchestra’s mission. The position requires cooperative work with the diverse constituencies of WVSO within the limits of available financial resources. Provide managerial and administrative leadership to WVSO and collaborate with the Music Director (who must exercise responsibility for the artistic direction of the orchestra) in developing and articulating goals, objectives and plans and in executing agreed upon strategies and programs.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (This is not an exhaustive list of every task, but a comprehensive overview of the various areas of responsibility)

Strategic Vision and Leadership
● Establish the organization’s strategic direction, develop a strategic plan, and maintain fiscal accountability and responsibility with board involvement
● Strive to create a culture of teamwork, harmony, and responsibility
● Maintain a collaborative relationship with the Music Director

Administrative and Operational Management
● Oversee and coordinate all operations of the Association
● Maintain a climate that attracts, motivates, and retains quality people – professional and volunteer
● Work collaboratively with the Music Director, Board of Trustees, Orchestra Team, and venue representatives to develop, plan, promote, and execute continued successful symphony concerts and seasons
● Recruit, hire, train, and manage staff and coordinate volunteer personnel
● Delegate specific duties to staff and volunteers
● Appoint and work with Team Leaders
● Ensure that staff and Team Leaders understand their roles and are able to fulfill those
expectations
● Monitor financial planning and financial reports
● Negotiate contracts and agreements
● Complete and sign official documents
● Develop and revise season Master Board Calendar, Master Musician Calendar, and Master Operational Calendar
● Oversee design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs, print and digital media, products and services
● Ensure high-quality patron and donor services
● Effectively manage the human resources of the organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations

Board Governance
● Establish a strong working relationship with the Board in financial, programmatic, service, and performance activities, encouraging all members to participate actively and facilitating their involvement beyond board meetings
● With the Board President, develop Board meeting agendas
● Maintain Board manual documents; revise as needed
● Maintain organizational records to pass on to successive President
● Recommend annual budget for Board approval and manage resources within those budget guidelines

Community and Public Relations
● Assure the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders
● Serve as chief spokesperson for the organization
● Coordinate donor acknowledgement and services

Communicator
● Coordinate and participate in the ongoing and active promotion of the symphony and its concerts, events and activities
● Coordinate season literature development and distribution
● Coordinate communications to musicians, partners, sponsors, season ticket holders, volunteers, music teachers and the community
● Coordinate periodic musician and audience surveys

Fund Development
● Oversee fund development planning and implementation, including researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals, and administrating fundraising records and documentation
● Identify grant opportunities and coordinate the preparation and implementation of grant applications, grant reports and grants received

Association Manager and Developer
● Expand the Association
● Track volunteers and hours
● Ensure volunteers receive acknowledgment for their service in a variety of meaningful ways

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PROFILE
● Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation,
analysis, decision-making and reporting
● Proficient with computer application skills and able to learn new programs
● Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
● Ability to convey a vision of the WSVO’s strategic future to staff, board, musicians, donors, and the community
● Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofits
● Skills to collaborate with and motivate board members and other volunteers
● Strong written and oral communication skills
● Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
● Strong public speaking ability

ADDITIONAL ATTRIBUTES
● Prefer previous experience with non-profit organizational management
● Must be a current resident of our North Central Washington community or willing to relocate to the area in order to maintain regular office hours and be available for board, committee, and other meetings, as well as attendance at concerts and other events

EVALUATION: The Governance Committee of the Board of Trustees will conduct an annual review at the end of each season, evaluating performance in each area of the stated job duties and responsibilities. Compensation review will ordinarily be done at a different time from performance review.
